Het is een 'B-sides and Rarities CD', ik ben heel erg benieuwd wat erop staat. Cake is goed in covers (denk maar aan 'I will survive'), maar schrijft uiteraard zelf ook briljante nummers. Hun eerste grote hit 'The Distance' stond op de cd 'Fashion Nugget' uit 1996.
Daarna zijn de hits helaas steeds kleiner geworden, maar de nummers niet minder slecht. Op de cd 'Prolonging the Magic' (1998) begint het nummer 'Let me go' met de volgende regels:
When she walks, she swings her arms instead of her hips
When she talks, she moves her mouth instead of her lips
In twee regels een onuitwisbaar beeld geschetst. Maar dit is geen toevalstreffer. Zanger en tekstschrijver John McCrea weet vaker met een simpele tekst een diep inzicht te verwoorden. Op 'Pressure Chief' (2004), de laatste reguliere cd van Cake, staat bijvoorbeeld het prachtige 'Palm of your hand'.
